Family Law Legal Assistant
Who Should Apply?
Our firm handles complex family law litigation cases which require a team approach. This position will be responsible for working on assignments as directed by our attorneys in order to keep our clients’ cases moving. Client interaction will be necessary, and therefore the person we hire will need to understand the importance of keeping the primary attorney handling each matter fully informed as to all client contact. The person we hire will value our clients and the responsibility of handling their cases with the utmost respect, accuracy, and confidentiality. Training and education in humanities with a focus on writing is preferred.
The person we hire will have great time management skills. This job will require all of the following:
- Greeting clients and visitors to our office, both by telephone and in person, in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner;
- Answering phone lines on a multi-line phone system, as needed, and routing callers to the proper team member;
- Communicating professionally, in a clear and concise manner, with our team members, our clients, court staff, and other attorneys and professionals;
- Maintaining a professional work environment at all times and complying with the company’s dress code policy;
- Staying on top of email and other communication, which includes consistent and reliable responsiveness and direction from the attorneys;
- Performing other administrative duties in an efficient and timely manner, such as electronic filing, photocopying, taking client payments, daily transmittal letters, organizing client files, organizing trial notebooks; and
- Completing other projects, as requested.
Some of these tasks will need to be completed simultaneously, and therefore, the person we hire must have impeccable attention to detail. The person we hire will be self-reliant. In other words, we will be able to give this person a stack of work or a project to handle and trust it will get done. This person will ask questions but will never make excuses. Questions should be asked once and not each time the same issue arises. The person we hire will know what it means to demonstrate prompt, consistent and punctual attendance, meet deadlines, work independently, and have a good work ethic.
The person we hire will be very comfortable working on a computer, using the Internet, and must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred and prior experience in a family law setting is absolutely a plus, but more than anything else, the person we hire will approach every part of this job with an open mind and have a willingness to learn “our way” of doing things. The person we hire will be someone we want to invest in; someone we will help grow professionally; and someone who will look for ways to improve themselves, the service we offer our clients, and the firm, as a whole, every single day.
